My Best Friends Girl

I couldn't stop thinking about her, even though she was Mark's girl. It hurt me so bad, seeing him touch her, hug her, and kiss her. I wish he hadn't met her, but if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have fallen so in love with her.
She was 6'1, tall, slim, and gorgeous.
I remember the first moment I saw her, sitting there in the diner. Mark was the first one over to take her order, while I stood there, waiting for an order.

Tonight she was by herself, sitting there all alone; Mark wasn't working so I went over to see her. I had finished my shift, so I was free.
"Hey there Jodi," I said, with a smile.
"Hi Nicky, you not working?" she said, smiling.
"Nope, I've got a free evening!"
"Looks like I've got one too because I don't know where Mark is, he said to meet me here."
"Maybe he's got tied up or is running late."
"Yeah, and his phone is oddly off, which he does rarely."
"What did you have planned?"
"We were gonna decide when he got here. What have you got planned?"
"A few videos, and some take-out."
"Sounds like a great idea, I just wished Mark would turn his phone on."
"You're welcome to join me if you want some company, and Mark doesn't reply."
"Thanks, I might just do that."
I said goodnight to the other workers, and left after Jodi. I didn't want it to look as if we were leaving together.

"What sort of movie do you want?" I asked her, while we stood miles apart.
"Anything funny!" she said.
"Jodi, are you okay? You don't have to come back to my flat; I was keen on it just being me. I know you and mark have been dating a while, I don't want to jeopardise it."
"Nicky, you aren't. I just feel like not being alone tonight. I think mark's seeing someone else, that the only reason I can think of his no-show!"
"Okies, you pick the videos, and I'll pick up some Chinese, and then we'll head back."

10 minutes later.
"Where are the videos?" I said, carrying the Chinese.
"I couldn't find any I liked. Let go past the diner, in case Mark's there!" Jodi said, looking at her watch.
Mark was there, sitting in the booth Jodi had been sitting in, but Mark wasn't alone. In the seat opposite him, was this blond woman. I could see Jodi blinking back the tears. Mark saw us staring, and his face showed nothing. He stood up, and came outside.
"Jodi, there you are.I thought you stood me up." Mark said, in a sad voice.
"Cut the 'sad' crap, who is she?"
"She? Oh its Linda, an old friend."
"An old friend, well, have a nice evening!" Jodi said, storming off.
"Mark, you big fool, why are you cheating on Jodi for?" I said, not impressed.
"Cos I want to, and anyway Jodi isn't that gorgeous as Linda." Mark said, smirking.
"Jodi probably has more brains than Linda. Gee Mark, Jodi loves you, you know. She's crazy about you, and look what you've done!"
"Nicky, go to hell. It's my life, I can do what ever I damn feel like."

I went around the corner; Jodi sat there crying.
"Jodi, are you okay?"
"Nicky, let's just go. I just feel like a quiet night in front of the TV."
"If you wanna stay at my flat, you're welcome."
"Nicky, you sure?"
"Yup, I wouldn't want you to be alone, tonight of all nights."
"Nicky, you are the perfect man, why are you still single?"
"Cos, I've not found Ms Right yet."
"That's so cute, I'm sure she's just around the corner!"

We drove back to my flat, and went inside, I turned the lights on, and put the Chinese on the table, and we dug in.
Jodi's phone rang.
"Hello, what do ya want Mark? So your blonde friend has left you for some other guy, and you thought you'd try and get back in my good books, well, there's a higher chance of hell freezing over, before I forgive you.I've got to go!"
"Man, the nerve of him!" she said, turning her phone off.

We settled back to see what was on TV, and ended up watching an old movie..
I went into the bathroom after the TV movie for a shower, and when I came back, Jodi had fallen asleep on the couch. I couldn't leave her there, so I tidied up the Chinese and turned off the lights.
I picked her up, carrying her into my room. I pulled the cover down, while still holding her, and softly placed her on the bed. I carefully removed her shoes, and pulled up the cover on her side.
I got undressed down to my boxers, and got in the other side. I fell asleep very quickly.

In the middle of the night, I woke up as someone was prodding me on my arm, and saw that Jodi was awake.
"Hey," I whispered.
"Hey, how did I get here?" she asked, confused.
"You fell asleep on the couch, so I picked you up, and brought you in here."
"Sorry, about that. I didn't mean to fall asleep." She said, getting out of bed.
"Where are you going?" I asked, worriedly.
"No-where, just taking a few things off, cos I can't sleep in them."
"Oh," I said, watching her, remove her jewelry, and her trousers.
"You wouldn't have a T-shirt or something?"
"Top drawer."
She walked over, and got a T-shirt, she took off her top, and put the T-shirt on, and then removes her bra. She put the clothes in a pile, and got back into bed.
"Comfy?" I said,
"Yeah, I am, thanks for letting me stay."
"Not a problem."

"Nicky, Jodi, sorry for ruining your plans for your day off, but I can't get hold of Shane or Fiona, and Kian is having a mental cos there's not enough staff." Bryan said, as Jodi and I walked into the diner early the next morning.
"Jodi, where the hell have you been?" Mark said, being angry.
"Nicky was kind to let me stay at his house." Jodi said, sticking her apron on.
"So, did you slept with him?"
"That's a personal question," she said.
"You've not. I knew it, he's as queer as that guy from boyzone."
"I'm not gay." I said, angrily.
How dare he say that, and Jodi was in listening distance, and she ran out the back.
"Look what you're done."
"She had to find out sooner or later."
"But it's a lie."
I found Jodi sitting out the back.
"Nicky, it's not true! Is it?" she said, sobbing.
"Jodi, I'm not gay, Mark was just jealous, he's trying to make you see me in a different light, a light that isn't true, so you'd hate me!" I said, trying to comfortable.
"How could I hate you Nicholas, when you're the sweetest guy I know."
"Oh god, don't make me sick, Nicky and Sweetest, don't go in the same sentence." Mark said, carrying a bag of rubbish.
"He's more of a man, you ever were!!!" Jodi replied.
"Oh, really, well, look who's talking? While her mate Fiona gets down and dirty with Shane, she thinks which one should I shag, not to feel left out?"
"Well, it will never be you Mark, not in a million year, but keep wishing babe, cos it ain't happening!!"
"Mark!!!" I said, punching him in the stomach, "you've got no right, spreading those dirty lies about Jodi or me, she deserves better than you."
"Oh, Mr Tough guy, sticking up for the trash-girl! God, no wonder you can't get a girl!"
"Mark, I have a girl, ya know, and I'm gonna treat her with respect, and give her everything her heart desires!"
"Hate to burst your bubble Nicky, but Barbie's don't count!" Mark said, laughing.

He soon stopped, when he saw Jodi and me kissing. He was speechless, and went back inside.
"That worked." I said, after a while.
"What? I don't think it did, lets try once more." Jodi giggled.
I kissed her again.
"Man, I definitely think there's something in this water we serve." Shane said, coming around the corner.
"Shane, Fiona, where the hell have you been? Nicky and I got roped in to cover your shifts." Jodi said, demanding.
"Oh, around." Fiona said, giving Shane a sexy smirk.
"Oh, well, since you guys have showed up, Nicky and I aren't needed!!" Jodi said, smiling.
"Oh, so you're decided to show up then Shane and Fiona. Well, Nicky and Jodi, you can go if ya want!" Bryan said, spotting us all out in the staff room.

2 years Later
"As we say goodbye to a good friend, and a talented male, he'll be sadly missed by his mam, dad, and his 2 brothers."
We all went to Mark's Funeral, even though we'd all lost touch when the diner closed down a year ago! Shane married Fiona, and they are expecting triplets in about 4 months. I've never seen Shane so happy, but he's not as happy as I am, with Jodi. Jodi is doing great; she's 3 months pregnant with our second kid. Even little Jamie is looking forward to his new sibling, he's forever touching Jodi's bump and talking to the baby, even though he's only 1 and a half.
Bryan met this girl April while on holiday in the Philippines, and it looks pretty serious.
"Jodi, are you ready to go." I said, grabbing Jamie and sticking him on my shoulders.
"Yeah, let's go. Graveyards do give me the creeps!"
We said our good byes and went home.
