Crying In The Night

Nicky rubbed his eyes, his clock read 2.12am. He could hear the quiet sobbing of someone crying&ldots;He soon realised that it was his flat-mate. He knew in his heart why she was crying&ldots;

He shouldn't have said that him and Georgina were getting married soon&ldots;He knew that Eilidh his flat-mate had feelings for him&ldots;
He lay there in the darkness, listening to her crying, why did his heart feel so bad!
He wanted to comfort her, but that would make things worse&ldots;he turned over, and tried to fall back asleep&ldots;

Nicky woke that morning, to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and something frying, he got up, and wandered into the kitchen, barefooted, and bare-chest, wearing only his boxers.
"Morning," He said, sitting at the breakfast bar.
"Morning, you hungry?" She said. Her face showed no trace of her crying&ldots;
"Yeah, are you ok?"
"Yeah, you heard me crying during the night didn't you?"
"Yeah, it wasn't about what I told you last night was it?"
She stood there in silence, turning the bacon over&ldots;
"Eil, I didn't mean to make you cry, or upset&ldots;"
"Nicky, I guess I have to face the fact that I'm gonna lose you&ldots;"
"You'll never lose me as a friend&ldots;"
"Yeah, but when you're married, you won't be hanging around here much&ldots;"
"But whenever I need time to relax, or hide away, I'll come home&ldots;"
"Nicky, don't&ldots;"
"Don't?? what??" He noticed her, stepping away&ldots;
"Don't do this to me&ldots;"
"Leave you all alone??"
"I don't think I could handle living without you if you got married!"
"No wonder you were so sad last night, I wanted to come and see if you were alright, but I couldn't. I just felt that it would make it worse&ldots;"
"I wasn't anticipating keeping you awake or even waking you with my tears. I think it just all got to me!!"
"It's okay, I didn't sleep that well, last night either&ldots;"
"Why was that?" She said, sitting on the couch with her coffee.
"I guess, I just had so much to think about as well&ldots;" Nicky said, sitting down on the couch, next to her.
"Nicky, you're more than just my flat-mate to me, you're like a brother, making sure I'm alright, when you're on the other side of the world. You seem to make me smile, when I feel sad&ldots;"
"I'll always be there for you, I mean, when I saw you the first time, I felt like I had met my angel&ldots;I've always known that we were meant for each other&ldots;"
"But there's the wee problem called Georgina!"
"I know&ldots;that's the problem&ldots;"

Nicky sat there, eating his breakfast alone. Eilidh had finished her coffee and was in the bathroom. He put down his plate, and sneaked to the bathroom&ldots;
The shower was running, so she wouldn't hear the door open. He tip-toed in, and remove his boxers, and step into the shower&ldots;
"Nicky,&ldots;" Eilidh said, with a whispered surprise.
"Shhhhhh" He said, as he started kissing the back of her neck&ldots;
"Nicky&ldots;&ldots;"
"Eilidh, I've always wanted to do this, but I've never have the chance cos I'm never here often!"
"Nicky! Shhhh!" she said, as she started kissing him back, on his cheeks, moving slowly towards his mouth.
Soon we were kissing, my mouth on hers and there was no need to stop, it felt so right, and neither of us wanted to stop. The passion just seemed to overtake the moment&ldots;
Then the phone rang&ldots;we both jumped, only my family and hers knew the number, we didn't give it out to anyone&ldots;
I grabbed a towel, and went to answer the phone&ldots;
"Hello?" I said,
"Nicky, where the hell are ya?" Georgina said, angrily.
"How did you get this number?
"Your parent's phonebook&ldots;"
"What do ya want?" He said, noticing Eilidh walking into her room in a towel&ldots;
"I thought you were staying at the hotel when you're in London&ldots;"
"Can a guy spent time at a mates place, to chill out and relax?"
"Depends, if the mate is male or female??"
"What if they were female?"
"WHAT??? Nicky, how could you??"
"Georgina, she's only a friend, and anyway its her flat, not mine&ldots;"
"But why?"
"Why what?"
"Why are you doing this to me? I thought we weren't gonna hold secrets from each other&ldots;"
"Georgina, look I've got to go get dressed, I'm standing here, dripping wet, wearing only a towel&ldots;"
"Nicky, is she still there?"
"Yeah, she is&ldots;you jealous that she could walk out of her room, and see me like this??? well, I hate to say, but she has already done so, many times&ldots;"
Then, all I could hear was the sound of the phone being slammed down, and the engaged signal.
Eilidh soon emerged, all dressed.
"Nix, you okay?" she said,
"No, I think Georgie is annoyed with me&ldots;"
"Why is that??"
"Probably cos I didn't tell her the truth!"
"Nicky, you should have told Georgina the truth from day one&ldots;"
"I wanted to, but I had an urge not to&ldots;I just wanted to keep this to myself, even the lads don't know about this place, and I'm not planning on telling them either&ldots;"
"But why? Don't the lads ever wonder where you go at night, when you're here in London&ldots;
"They know I've got a few mates here who put me up for the night, they don't know about you though&ldots;"
"So I'm like a secret to them, so if I went up to them, they'd not know who I was&ldots;"
"Yeah, I need to get this business with Georgina sorted, before I could ever start introducing you to them&ldots;"
"Nicky, I don't mind&ldots; Is that the time, I'm gonna be late for my meeting, see ya later," She says, not before planting a kiss on my forehead, and leaving the flat.

He sat there, thinking what to do? Georgina's phone call really got me annoyed. He didn't see the crime in having a secret flat or a secret, yet sexy flat mate to go with the flat&ldots;
The phone rang again,
"Hello?" He said, with uncertainty.
"Nicky, it's ya Mam!" said the voice.
"Mam&ldots;.."
"Nicky, I'm sorry for leaving the address book out&ldots;"
"Mam, it's okay, she had to find out soon or later&ldots;"
"She stormed out before, I don't know what happened, she didn't say anything&ldots;"
"Mam, I don't know either&ldots;you didn't have the address to this place by the phone number, did ya?"
"Of course not, do ya think she's on her way to London??"
"Hope not, the last thing I want is for her to be knocking on the door&ldots;I'll talk to ya later&ldots;"

He got up, and put the kettle on, he looked through the cupboards, maybe I should cook tonight, he thought&ldots;
Suddenly there was a loud knock on the door&ldots;
He went to the door, looking through the eye-hole&ldots;shit, it was Georgina&ldots;
"Nicky, Open up&ldots;"
He stood there, silently, hoping she would go away&ldots;
"I know you're in there,"
"Georgina, go away&ldots;" He said, opening the door. He had grabbed his coat, and his keys and his phone, wallet, and closed the door preventing her from going in&ldots;
"Nicky, why can't I come in?"
"Georgina, its not your place, and I don't think my flat-mate would like me to invite people into her flat, when she's not there&ldots;"
"So, where are we going?"
"Somewhere to talk&ldots;I think we have to get this sorted&ldots;"
"Sorted??? What??"

We found a small café, in the next street, we ordered coffee, and sat down.
"Georgina, I don't think this is working out," he said, stirring his coffee.
"What isn't? Us??" she said, shocked.
"Yeah, I'm sorry!"
"Nicky, you don't know what you saying?"
"Georgie, I love my flat-mate, she was in tears last night, cos I told her about how you and me were getting married soon, and I think she loves me more than she's showing&ldots;"
"Nicky, you mean you love her more than me?? how long have you know her?"
"A few months, when I saw her, my heart melted, I felt like this girl was the one,"
"Why didn't you ended it with me then?"
"I was unsure how she felt&ldots;I only discovered that, a few weeks ago&ldots;"

Nicky walked back to the flat an hour later. His heart felt heavy, but his mind seem to be jumpy&ldots;He was single again, free to date&ldots;he wondered how Eilidh would take the news&ldots;

Eilidh wasn't back yet, so he sat there watching tv.
He suddenly felt like crying, for some reason. He didn't know why he was feeling so sad&ldots;

Suddenly, there was a key in the door, and Eilidh walked in&ldots;she saw his face,
"Nicky, what's wrong??" She said, rushing towards him&ldots;
"I dunno, I just started crying before, and couldn't stop..." He said.
"Did you talk with Georgina??"
"Yep, she came to the flat, but I didn't let her in, we went to Coal's Café."
"What happened?"
"We ended it&ldots;on mutual terms, I confessed that I loved someone else!"
"You do??"
"Yeah, I do, she's so special to me, when I first met her, she was like an angel who had just come down from heaven. She made me feel like a man&ldots;"
"Nicky, is it rude to ask but who is she?"
"She's the one who sits before me, asking me who is my angel?"
"Nicky, you're not serious??"
"I'm serious as the day I moved into the flat, I thought you were meant for me!"
"Nicky, so you're single now?"
"Yeah, I am, and I'm gonna cook dinner tonight,"
"Nicky, you sure? We could order in, if it's a special occasion??"
"No, I'll cook&ldots;"
"Sounds good, so is there any reason why you're cooking?"
"Good company, quiet night in, who knows what the reason?"
"Nicky, is there anything I can do?"
"Just sit there, and watch telly, or go check your e-mails. I'll handle it&ldots;"
I stood there looking at the fridge/freezer. Hmm what would I make?
There was some chicken stirfry in the fridge, and loads of vegetables, so I got chopping, and soon it was sizzling away&ldots;sweet and sour chicken stirfry with noodles.
Soon it was all done, and the table was set, with candles, the lights dimmed,
"Nicky, its beautiful&ldots;mmmm what's that delicious smell? Oh wait its you&ldots;" Eilidh said, giggling&ldots;
"For that, you have to do dishes&ldots;"
"Oh damn, shame we've got a dishwasher&ldots;"

After dessert and coffee, we sat there on the couch, watching some crap show on the tv. It felt like any other night when we both home, but somehow it was different, we were 2 hearts that were now inseparable&ldots;.
