Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Five Part Six

This Love is For Real

A few days later, Mam was out of hospital. She looked very well, and she was to take it easy for the first few days.

Eilidh and I visited her everyday, which she liked. We had finally got the photos developed, so she had a look at them.

Eilidh wasn’t feeling too well, she thought it might be a stomach bug, so she went off to the doctors, while I visited Mam.

That Afternoon, I arrived back at the apartment, Eilidh was sitting there, quietly.

"Eilidh, you okay?" I asked, being very concerned for her.

"Nicky, I know why I’m feeling sick in the morning. I’m pregnant!"

"How far along?" I said, wondering was it mine? Or some other man’s.

"Nix, if you’re wondering if it’s yours, it is. It’s only a month gone. It’s still early days yet!" She said, smiling.

"Mam would be very excited about this." I said.

"Nicky, lets wait another month, before announcing the news. We have a wedding to organise, remember?"

"Okay, we’ll have to bring it forward a few months!"

"Yeah, I can’t see myself, fitting into the dress, if I’ve got a belly." She laughed.

A Month passed, tonight was the big announcement to my family, about the baby. Eilidh had rang her family, breaking the news to them, they were overjoyed, and very happy about it, and was excited about the wedding as they were flying in from New Zealand, Scotland, and also London, just to be there.

We were eating at my mam’s house. Mam had put on a special dinner, and had a very delicious dessert.

It was over Coffee, I broke the news.

"Mam, Dad, Eilidh and I have some news, in about 7 or so months we are expecting a baby."

"Nicky and Eilidh, what wonderful news. No wonder you declined the wine before, got to look after the baby!" Mam said.

"Yeah, I’m pretty excited about it." Eilidh said, putting her hand on her belly. Nothing was showing yet.

"That’s why we’ve brought the wedding forward." I said.

"Nicky, it only seems like yesterday that you were a little kid and now you’re going to be a dad. I’ll have to teach you about being a dad." Dad said,

"Men-Talk" said Mam, rolling her eyes in Eilidh’s direction!

The months to the wedding went with speed, and soon it was the BIG DAY. Eilidh had spent the night in the apartment, with Gill, and one of Eilidh’s friends Fee, while I stayed at the family home.

We had decided that it wouldn’t be a big, huge wedding. It wasn’t our sort of thing.

As I stood with my groomsmen’s, Mark and Shane, just trying to be calm, when the music started, I turned to see Eilidh looking very beautiful, being escorted down the aisle by her mum.

As we went through the ceremony, I had a little surprise for her, as Shane, Kian, Mark and Bryan sang Together Girl Forever.

I could see Eilidh’s face, and she gave me this smile to if to say thank you!

Then moments later, when the celebrant announced that we were husband and wife, I grabbed Eilidh, and gave her a kiss.

As we walked out to the car, to take us to the reception, I whispered to her "You alright?"

"Yeah, I’m fine, how about you?" she asked,

"I’m very happy!"

It only seems like yesterday, but in reality its been 4 months since Eilidh gave birth to James. It was the most relaxed birth, and when I saw James head, I was welling up inside, I hadn’t known that the birth of your own child was a totally a emotional experience.

James looks like both of us, and a very quiet baby, that’s a blessing. Lets hope that the next one is the same! Only 7 months to go!
