Was it only a week since Nicky surprised her with a visit, when he was supposed to be in Asia, with the lads on their sell-out world tour! Had time gone that fast! It seemed like only yesterday they were walking through the rose gardens in Wellington. It was only 2 days, but they were 2 special days!
It was sad to see Nicky leave, I stood there outside the hotel in the pouring rain, waiting for his taxi to take him back to the airport! I could feel that he didn’t want to go but Louis had rang that morning, demanding that Nicky caught the next flight to Hong Kong for the concert they were holding tomorrow night! His eyes said it all, he wanted to stay but as a member of the top pop band Westlife, he had to put his private life on hold, and concentrate on the band which according to Louis was more important. It was obvious Louis didn’t care about the bands girlfriends or partners as long as they didn’t interfered with the bands schedules!
As the taxi arrived, Nicky put his arm around my shoulders and just hugged me for about a min or two! Then he put his bags into the taxi and then it was time for him to go! I was slowly starting to cry, Nicky knew exactly how I felt, and kissed me on the lips, and then I kissed him on his forehead, somewhere I knew he liked being kissed! Then it was goodbye and then his taxi slowly moved out into the traffic towards the airport!
As I walked towards the train station, I stopped to buy something to read on the journey home. As I glanced at the magazines, I was shocked to see my picture on the cover of "Woman’s Day" I mean how did they get that picture! I bought the magazine, and ran toward to the train!
As I sat on the train waiting for it to take me home, I forgot that Nicky had given me a tape of something, so I put it into my walkman and press play.. the tape was him talking and some songs that he wrote which he really wanted to be on the next Westlife album but Louis didn’t think that they were good enough and that if they were to be on the album, Shane or Mark would have to be singing it!
As I listened to the songs, I was overcome by emotion, I knew that these songs were about me, I could not believe it! The words seem to describe exactly how Nicky felt about me!
As I took out the woman’s mag, I glanced at the picture again&ldots; it was one of me and Nicky from the rose garden! The headline " ‘Kiwilife – how one girl captured an Irish sex god’ exclusive pictures of their secret weekend together in the capital" as I flicked to the pages, I was starting to get the feeling that someone was watching me, I slowly looked up and there was a girl in her late teens staring at me from a distance, as she approached. Casually I said " hi?"
She replied with a grin "I thought you were the girl in that magazine, I was just reading it and had to double take when I saw you" " yeah, I am a bit surprised to see myself in this magazine, it’s just a bit scary" I answered.
She said " I just had to tell you that I think that you and Nicky suit each other, I’m a big fan of Westlife and Nicky is my favourite! I didn’t really think Georgina was the one for Nicky, I was kind of glad they split, I mean they didn’t seem to have the chemistry, that you and Nicky have!, I hope that you both are happy as I can see a huge future for you both" with that, she moved back into her seat down the carriage. I sat there stunned about what this girl said.
As I got off the train at Paekakariki, I caught the girl’s eye and simply smiled at her, and then the train slowly moved off to Paraparaumu.
As I walked up the hill to my house, I felt happy, as I walked into my house. My sister ran up to me, and told that there was something on the news updates about Nicky from Westlife and his kiwi girlfriend. I asked her " was there any footage of her?" to that she answered no, so I handed her the magazine and her face dropped! She could not believe it, she was like, "oh so that’s who’ve you been with this weekend? Not with your bz-bonkers friends at another one of those boyzone get together things in Wellington?"
" yeah, sorry about that, I didn’t mean to lie," I replied as I dropped my bag on my bed.
Later on during the news, the news item came on, John Campbell said "fans of the pop band Westlife were stunned, yet surprised, to learn that one of the bands hunks Nicky Byrne was in the capital on Saturday and Sunday, surprising his girlfriend of 2 months, 22 year old Eilidh Calder with a surprise visit. The pair were seen walking through the botanical gardens, and spotted checking out the stores along Lambton Quay. Fans who spotted the pair, were a bit surprised to see Nicky in New Zealand , as the band were supposed to be in Hong Kong for a 3 concert tour! One fan Jo, aged 29 who was down visiting one of other friends who lived in Wellington, said that she was totally stunned when she saw them together, as the girl was a good friend of hers. She was totally unaware that the pair were going out, but she understood the reason behind the secrecy of Eilidh not telling her that she was seeing Nicky, she believed that it was because two months ago, Eilidh had invited Nicky into the conference, and we didn’t think that it was really Nicky from Westlife, so he left and apparently Eilidh kept chatting with him, and as well as us! so that’s when I kind of got the feeling that Eilidh was spending a lot of time chatting online with Nicky over the net while chatting with us, but I thought nothing serious of it!" then the news items finished and the next item started something about Posh Spice but I wasn’t interested in that!
I switched channels to Sky, thankfully mum had got Sky Digital so I could watch Sky News Sunrise from Britain! I didn’t have to wait long to find that my face was splashed all over the tabloid’s there too, majority were the kissing photos in front of the roses!
Just then my mobile phone rang,
"hello?" I said
"Eilidh, it’s me Nix" he replied, I could tell he wasn’t that happy.
"Nix, what the matter, you sound unhappy?" I asked.
"I suppose it’s all over the news in NZ, about us, it’s all over the news here and Ronan rang to say the papers in Britain are full of pictures!" he replied.
I hesitated in replying " yeah, it is, I bought one of the woman’s magazines and we were on the front cover, I’m so scared, I’ve never been so much in the public eye before!"
Nicky’s voice was soothing, "look, it’ll blow over in a few days, I’m sure it will, look, just be strong and listen to those 3 songs on that tape and you’ll be fine! I shouldn’t really be on the phone because it’s the middle of the afternoon here and I have to be in rehearsals in half a hour for tonight’s concert so I better go, so bye love, I love you always! I miss you so much" with that he burst into tears, I told him "Nix, be strong, come on, if the lads saw you crying, what would they think? Yeah, I miss you too, and I love you too, well, you better go, I don’t want you to get into trouble, I will talk to you later, ok nix, ‘kiss, kiss’ bye nix, and good luck for tonight’s concert!" and then we hanged up, I felt a bit worried about Nicky, I had never heard him upset like that!
